For many of our patients, our fully-equipped onsite gym is where their rehabilitation programme begins. What happens in our gym lays the foundations for injury recovery, gaining strength, restoring mobility and enjoying a higher level of wellbeing. It’s an important place!
In our onsite rehabilitation gym, our physiotherapists implement individualised exercise programmes for our patients which work alongside our hands-on manual therapy treatments. Using our onsite gym equipment, we can demonstrate and guide you through one on one sessions to restore strength, flexibility and balance to your body.
Rehabilitation is so important after an injury because some injuries can be caused by muscle tightness or weakness which can lead to body imbalances. These imbalances can lead to poor posture or add extra load or stress to certain areas of the body. Our physiotherapists assess your body as a whole, diagnose body imbalances and develop a strengthening programme that can be done in our gym and at home. Strengthening work is vital in the rehabilitation of all injuries and can help to minimise the risk of injury recurrence.
Our rehab programmes are drawn up specifically for each patient. Most of our clients will stick rigidly to their programme and follow all of the instructions we give them, both in the gym and at home. However, some may be tempted to change things up a bit to keep things interesting and their motivation high. They might undertake their own rehab plan while at home, then come to our gym and revert to the programme we put in place with them. That’s not always a good idea, and here’s why.
Much of our exercise treatment depends on repetition, working on a single part of the body in the same way, over and over again. Through repeated exercises, the body rebuilds strength and regains mobility. By going against our instructions just so they can get a “change of scenery”, some of our clients are actually doing more harm than good. They may re-injure themselves, or their homemade exercise plan could miss the mark completely by working on a part of the body that doesn’t require treatment!
When it comes to any exercise treatment plan we set up for you, it’s best to follow it to the letter. Doing the right thing over and over again works – our team knows we know that through experience. Of course, if there is room to change things up from time to time, we’ll tell you. But drawing up your own programme is fraught with danger – your recovery will stay on track if you stick to a winning gym rehab plan.
