We’ve been providing acupuncture therapy for decades, and we continue to do so at our Epsom physio clinic. The reason we’ve been doing it for so long is because it works. On its own or in conjunction with other treatments, it has tremendous benefits in the areas of sporting injuries, muscle tightness, joint pain, and more.
We have written before about the benefits of acupuncture but we thought it might be timely to remind you about this special technique. It’s a new year and you might have made a resolution to yourself to finally do something about the pain or discomfort you’ve been feeling for far too long. You don’t need a GP’s referral to come to us – you can make an appointment and we’ll ascertain if one of our physiotherapy services can help you. We might recommend acupuncture as part of that treatment, and that’s where you might become a little wary. We understand. We know of very few people who like the idea of having needles inserted into them! That’s why we want to tell you what we do before, during and after an acupuncture session. We think it will be of great reassurance to you.
Before we undertake any form of acupuncture treatment, our experienced physiotherapists will take the time to explain what you should expect from your treatment. There’ll be no surprises and you’ll know exactly what the procedure will entail. It’s likely you’ll be pleasantly surprised when the fine acupuncture needles are inserted because most of our patients feel very little at this point – excuse the pun. The needles will be kept in for up to 30 minutes and then removed with great care.
Throughout the treatment, we’ll ensure the atmosphere is calm and reassuring. We’ll do our best to keep you comfortable, pain-free and calm while we provide the tailored acupuncture treatment that will best suit your needs, and most quickly alleviate your discomfort. As we said earlier, your acupuncture treatment may be done alongside other physiotherapy techniques. Because it can be a vital component of an overall rehabilitation programme, with significant benefits, we are very keen for you to feel comfortable about this form of therapy – that’s why we work so hard to make each session a stress-free one. It certainly has to be better than that ongoing pain!
Acupuncture works! We know it does, and that’s why we are so proud to offer it as a therapy to our patients. But if you’re still a little apprehensive about trying it, please contact us for a chat and we’ll further put your mind at rest.
