With many of us finding ourselves self-isolating and working from home during the current global pandemic of COVID-19, our fitness and health may have taken a backseat. Additionally, pain relief may be your go-to remedy these days, while concerns about your overall well being continue to rise. It can be worrisome to consider that your health can deteriorate during this time and that your fitness levels will most likely decrease. Furthermore, you’ll likely be unable to visit your local physiotherapy clinic and have to resort to video or phone calls for your next appointment.
To help you through this tough time, our Kingsland Physio clinic has developed this guide to incorporate into your daily schedule. We want you to stay active and manage your health proactively as best as you can during this period, but we also want to ensure you do it safely.
Here are some suggestions which you can implement today.
Book An Appointment
Even though most healthcare professionals are no longer taking face-to-face appointments, at Cairnhill Physiotherapy we can assist with a phone or video call during the lockdown period. You can still make an appointment with us and we can assist with both new and old injuries, help keep you on track with your treatment plan and advise you of certain exercises to incorporate into your everyday routine.
Keep Clean
With more free time available to many of us now, we may find ourselves drawn to cleaning and decluttering to pass the time. Tackle those deep cleaning chores you have put off, such as gardening, scrubbing down the oven and giving the house a complete wipe down. You will be surprised at how many calories you can lose simply by keeping the house clean.
Use Your Space
Depending on your home setup, you may not have space to jog around or use any gym equipment. Instead of sitting down in front of the television and admitting defeat, first consider moving your furniture around to create a makeshift workout zone. Here you can do mindful yoga and engage in safe bodyweight exercises. Having a dedicated space to exercise in will encourage you to stay fit throughout this period.
Challenge Yourself To Healthy Eating
Although it may feel like the best time to indulge in the snack cupboard, consider how much unhealthy eating affects you. Not only will you feel unnecessarily bloated and sluggish, but it can also worsen your mood and mental health. Try to eat plenty of fresh produce during this period and challenge yourself to nutritious and delicious meals.
There’s no reason why you should be battling with pain alone during this period. Although inconvenient, we can still assist you via video and phone calls. Book an appointment with Cairnhill Physiotherapy for expert service and support.
